Cakes and Ale are a seven-string folk band from Norwich. We pool Middle Eastern, Eastern European, Medieval and Modern influences to inform their original compositions and their arrangements often call upon the bizarre and the burlesque (musical saw, honkey-tonk piano, frame drums and strings).
In the three years since forming their raucous live performances on street corners, at beer festivals and pagan weddings across the country have gained them a cult following.
They have toured Germany, Poland and Czech Republic and they have just received funding from the British Arts Council to record their debut album which they will be releasing in May 2011.
The first signings to UK label, Grook Presents, Cakes & Ale are currently recording the third in a series of three EP’s and are soon to begin recording their debut album. A September tour, including festivals, is now currently booking so please get in touch if you are interested.
